TITLE:
Assistant Professor of Economics

Tenure-track, permanent, 9-month, full time, 100% Academic
 
AREAS OF EMPHASIS:
Health Economics
 
SALARY:
Commensurate with training and experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary responsibilities include:  Teach courses in SES areas of need and conduct a rigorous and modern program of applied research in health economics. Procurement of extramural funds and appropriate research collaboration with other SES faculty is expected.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Earned PhD in Economics or related field before date of hire
 
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels
Strong training in Economic Theory and Quantitative Methods
Effective written and oral communication skills
Ability to develop and implement a nationally and internationally recognized and respected research program in the area of the economic impacts of infectious disease
Ability to work with a variety of audiences, including governmental agency representatives, and persons of diverse cultures and backgrounds
 
THE UNIVERSITY AND SCHOOL:
Washington State University is a state-supported, comprehensive, land grant, research institution, co-located on four campuses connected by state-of-the-art telecommunications. The total enrollment is approximately 20,000 students in seven colleges offering doctorates in 44 disciplines and masters and bachelors degrees in 55 disciplines. The School of Economic Sciences was formed in 2004 by the merger of the Department of Economics and the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics. The School currently has 28.5 faculty, including 24.5 tenured and tenure track positions, and expects significant expansion over the next few years. It offers a Bachelor of Science degree with options in a variety of areas covering general economics and agricultural and resource economics; a Masters degree in Applied Economics; and PhDs in Economics and Agricultural Economics. We have approximately 200 undergraduate majors and 80 graduate students, including approximately 60 working towards a PhD.
 
PULLMAN WASHINGTON:
The School of Economic Sciences in located on the main campus of Washington State University. Washington State University is a land grant institution founded in 1890 and is one of two major research universities in the State of Washington. WSU serves the needs of over 22,000 students on 4 campuses. The main Pullman campus is located in the Palouse area of southeastern Washington. Pullman offers many of the cultural and social advantages that come with a being at a Pac-10 university in a safe, small-town college environment. Opportunities for outdoor activities are abundant.
