POSITION:  Choral Music Education/Director of Vocal Jazz Ensemble and University Singers

 

RANK:  Assistant Professor, tenure track, full-time, 9-month appointment effective August 16, 2010

 

DUTIES:  Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in choral music education including student teacher supervision, direct VoJazz vocal jazz ensemble, conduct University Singers choir; other possible assignments dependent upon the strength of the successful candidate and program needs. Maintain research/scholarship/creative activity. Build relationships with music educators in the state and actively participate in recruitment and mentoring of students and program-building initiatives. Participate in service activities and professional organizations ancillary to the position.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree and national viability or doctorate; documented evidence of current or past certified choral teaching at the secondary level; knowledge of current choral and vocal jazz methods, materials, and literature; effective classroom teaching/rehearsal techniques; demonstrated record of student recruitment and retention; evidence of the ability to produce significant achievements in performance, creative activity, and/or research.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Demonstrated ability to teach at the university/college level; proven excellence as a conductor/director of vocal jazz ensemble and choir as well as commitment to leadership position in music education; established record of teaching, performance, and scholarship; high level of organizational skills and interpersonal communication; keyboard skills commensurate with college-level choral instruction; jazz keyboard skills; and documented evidence of student recruitment and retention.

 

SCHOOL:  The School of Music resides within the College of Liberal Arts and includes 22 full-time and 9 part-time faculty, 8 staff, and 178 music majors pursing BM, BA, and MA degrees.  The BM in Performance with an emphasis in Jazz Voice is an offered option to qualified students.  The School, in conjunction with the College of Education, offers the BM and MA in Music Education leading to K-12 public school certification.  The School of Music is housed in the recently renovated Kimbrough Music Building, which includes a professional quality, digital recording studio.
