POSITION: Director of Bands and Instrumental Music Education Specialist

 

RANK: Assistant Professor, tenure track, full-time, 9-month appointment effective August 16, 2010.

 

DUTIES: Conduct the premier wind ensemble—Wind Symphony; teach instrumental music education courses and supervise student teachers. Teach undergraduate and graduate conducting classes. Teach other courses as needed/assigned. Maintain creative and scholarly activity. Actively foster department-wide recruitment efforts for the continued development of the band program. Participate in advising as well as other service activities and professional organizations.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate in Music or A.B.D. with degree completion by spring of 2010; equivalent academic and professional qualifications will be considered; demonstrated high level of conducting ability; music education teaching ability; demonstrated ability teaching K–12.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated ability to teach at the university/college level; ability to achieve successful program building, recruitment and retention; ability to produce significant scholarly achievements, creative activities and/or research; strong communication and interpersonal skills. Higher consideration may be given to candidates with the ability to teach applied horn or tuba/euphonium.

 

SCHOOL: The School of Music within the College of Liberal Arts has 22 full-time and 9 part-time music faculty, 8 staff, and 178 music majors pursuing BM, BA and MA degrees. The School, in conjunction with the College of Education, offers programs leading to K-12 public school certification. The School of Music is housed in the recently renovated Kimbrough Music Building, which includes a professional quality, digital recording studio.
