Description of Position: The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University in Pullman, WA, seeks an Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. This will be a tenure-track, or tenured 11-month position.
Responsibilities include: directing the graduate and undergraduate programs; fostering faculty research and stimulating funding; representing the dean at key meetings and events when necessary; participating in budgetary and personnel actions; attending meetings with university leadership, college leadership and staff as appropriate; collaborating with faculty in authoring promotion, tenure, third-year, contract and annual review statements; advancing the college’s commitment to diversity and multiculturalism in all activities; conducting and publishing scholarly research; and performing other duties as assigned by the dean.
Appointment begins as early as January 2010.
Qualifications include: a Ph.D. in communication or a related field; an active research program and a publication record that is commensurate with Murrow College and WSU standards for appointment to the rank of Associate or Full Professor; evidence of successful teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and successful administrative experience in an academic unit containing undergraduate emphases in broadcast/print journalism, advertising/public relations, and/or communication studies,and graduate programs. Preference will be given to candidates with research specializations in media and society or media and politics, administrative experience in a comprehensive program including broadcast/print journalism, advertising/public relations, communication studies, and a doctoral program.
Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication includes programs in advertising, broadcasting, communication studies, journalism, and public relations at the undergraduate level. A strong internship program and support from professionals throughout the Pacific Northwest augment classroom instruction. Master’s and doctoral programs focus on Media, Health & Social Issues and Organizations, Culture & Communication. The College enjoys custom-designed teaching, research and production facilities. Washington State University, a member of the Pacific 10 conference, is among the 95 research universities nationwide with a Carnegie classification of “very high research activity.” We are a land-grant institution with an enrollment of 18,000 students. The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication is the newest college at Washington State University, having been elevated to college status on July 1, 2008, representing the University’s commitment to increase the College’s impact as a signature program for the University and the state of Washington. Washington State University has 105 undergraduate programs and more than 70 Master’s and 46 Doctoral programs offered through ten colleges and the Graduate School.
