DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: The Program in Criminal Justice at Washington State University, Pullman Campus, announces one tenure track position search at the level of Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, with appointment beginning August 16, 2010. A Ph. D. in Criminal Justice or a related social science field will be required by 8/15/2010. The position has a 2/2 course teaching load based on a semester system.
QUALIFICATIONS: The Program seeks to hire a candidate whose substantive research and graduate teaching interests and specialization focus on the policy intersections of public health and criminal justice. We seek candidates who will contribute to the research, policy orientation and teaching foci and strengths of the Program and whose work, research and teaching will advance the commitment of the College of Liberal Arts to building excellence in the study of the social, cultural and behavioral aspects of human health and well-being. The successful candidates will be expected to pursue an active research and publishing agenda, teach undergraduate and graduate courses and, as part of the normal teaching load, participate in teaching technology-based distance learning courses, and engage in service activities for the Program, college, university, local, national and international communities, and the profession. The Program seeks a candidate who is broadly trained in criminal justice. Applicants should have a strong theoretical foundation, have excellent qualitative and quantitative research skills, be comfortable with cooperative teaching and research that crosses disciplinary boundaries, have an interest in applied criminal justice policy and the methodological background and skills which enable them to bridge theoretical and applied research.

The Program offers B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees in Criminal Justice, and is committed to an integrated curriculum that emphasizes multi-disciplinary social science approaches to the study of local, national and international criminal justice institutions, criminal justice policies, and criminal behavior.
RANK AND SALARY: The appointment will be at the Assistant Professor rank. The salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
