Biological Anthropologist
Description of Position
The position is a permanent tenure-track Assistant Professorship in the Department of Anthropology on the Pullman campus of Washington State University, to begin August 16, 2010. The position is a nine-month, full-time appointment, with a normal teaching load of two 3-4 credit courses per semester. Applicants are sought to conduct research and teach as part of a four sub-field Anthropology program.
The position includes teaching, research, and service components. Contributions to the department’s teaching would ordinarily include Anthropology 260 (Introduction to Physical Anthropology) — and a graduate course within the Evolutionary Anthropology Stream. Additional undergraduate and graduate courses would be a part of the teaching load dependent on departmental needs and the interests and specialties of the faculty member. The faculty member will be expected to demonstrate commitment to and success at teaching and advising both undergraduate and graduate students. As a member of a Ph. D.-granting program at a research university, the faculty member will be expected to seek external funding for research, conduct research projects, regularly publish research results, and be an active advisor and research mentor for graduate students. Service to the Department, University, and discipline is also expected. Salaries are competitive at the Assistant Professor level.
Required Qualifications
The following qualifications are required: a Ph. D in Anthropology or related discipline completed by July 1, 2010; a specialty in any area of biological anthropology; active research grounded in evolutionary theory; evidence of research excellence appropriate to career stage; ability to teach undergraduate lab-based Introduction to Physical Anthropology and graduate courses in the Evolutionary Anthropology Stream.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with the following qualifications: articulation with our IGERT program in biological and cultural evolution (http://ipem.anth.wsu.edu/); and persons who complement and enhance existing faculty strengths.
