DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Edward R. Murrow School of Communication at Washington State University in Pullman, WA seeks a full time, 9-month academic year, tenure-track or professional (clinical) advertising faculty at the senior assistant professor or associate professor rank. Appointment begins August 16, 2008. Responsibilities include teaching classes in media planning and principles of advertising. All applicants must be able to teach two other courses in the candidate’s areas of professional experience and/or research. The successful candidate will also be expected to advise undergraduate and graduate students and serve as a liaison with the professional community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

All candidates must be able to teach media planning and principles of advertising as well as two other courses in the candidate’s areas of professional experience and/or research. Associate-level tenure-track candidates must possess a Ph.D. before the date of hire, have a resume that indicates nationally recognized research status, have evidence of successful teaching, and have the ability to assume leadership responsibilities in the degree program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates with a research program that complements the Murrow School’s graduate emphases. Tenure-track candidates at the Assistant Professor level will have earned a Ph.D. before the date of hire, have evidence of successful teaching, and be engaged in a productive research agenda. Preference will be given to candidates with the ability to assume leadership responsibilities in the degree program and those with a research program that complements the Murrow School’s graduate emphases. Associate-level professional (clinical) candidates will possess at least 10 years of relevant professional experience in advertising and at minimum a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field. Preference will be given to candidates with a graduate degree in an advertising-related field, demonstrable evidence of successful teaching, and the ability to assume leadership responsibilities in the degree program. Assistant-level professional (clinical) candidates will possess at least five years of relevant professional experience in advertising and at minimum a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field. Preference will be given to candidates with a graduate degree in an advertising-related field, demonstrable evidence of successful teaching, and the ability to assume leadership responsibilities in the degree program. Salaries are competitive and will be commensurate with experience.

The Edward R. Murrow School of Communication includes programs in advertising, broadcasting, communication studies, journalism and public relations at the undergraduate level. A strong internship program and support from professionals throughout the Pacific Northwest augment classroom instruction. Master’s and doctoral program emphases include health communication, intercultural and international communication, media processes and effects, media and society, and organizational communication. The School enjoys state-of-the-art, custom-designed teaching, research and production facilities in a new building which opened in January of 2004.
