Proposed Plan Purpose

Human Resource Services is in the process of gathering feedback and conducting informational sessions on the proposed Administrative Professional Classification and Compensation Plan. Currently there is no set timeline as to if the plan will be implemented or not.

The purpose of the proposed Administrative Professional (AP) Classification and Compensation Plan is to provide a meaningful systematic approach to AP salary placement, ensure consistent compensation practices system wide, and to maintain a competitive market position for both current and future AP employees.  This flexible plan will be reviewed and analyzed annually and adjusted if needed.  In order to achieve these goals, a new classification system for AP employees was a necessary first step.

Career Families

A classification system aligns positions into categories or career families based upon the primary duties of the position. A career family is comprised of a broad grouping of positions commonly clustered with similar market characteristics. Typically, titles within a career family handle similar work, require similar types of training, skills, knowledge and expertise.

Career Series

A Career Series is a progression of titles within career families with similar functions. To create a career series, a critical review of the position information (position description, organizational structure, etc) is conducted by Human Resource Services (HRS) considering the duties, responsibilities, supervision exercised, organizational breadth, accountability, required skills, education and experience.  Once this analysis is concluded, a position is placed in the proper classification within a Career Series.

Salary Bands

Utilizing a state of the art online market salary survey system from salary.com, HRS will evaluate market data or benchmarks to develop salary bands.  These broad and initially conservative bands will be flexible and provide appropriate exception to meet the evolving needs of the University.  Salary Band Data - coming soon!

What does this mean for AP employees?

The implementation of this plan and administrative change to an employees' system indicator will not  affect an employees' status as an Administrative Professional, impact salary, or working titles.  Employees will receive formal notification from HRS upon completion of the plan.
